In April-May 2009, the country exported onion at a total cost of 3910000000 crores.
Exports fell due to high minimum export prices in the beginning of the year, which reduced demand from other countries, and especially from Pakistan.
To stop the rise of local prices of onions, authorities have raised the minimum export price from about 200 dollars in November to over 500 dollars per ton in early March.
However, the minimum export prices have fallen steadily since the middle of March to 200 dollars in June due to the sufficient volumes of stock.
